Terms of Service

Last updated: 2 October 2026 · Also see our Privacy Policy

The short version

  • Island of Cats is a free game: snap the street cats around you, name them and collect them.
  • Photograph cats where you really are, leave them in peace, and be kind to other players.
  • You own your photos. You let us show them in the app to other players.
  • XP, levels, badges and rankings are just for fun. They have no cash value, and cheating loses them.
  • You must be 16 or over. You can delete your account at any time.

1. About these terms

These terms are an agreement between you and Skoulix Labs, the trading name of Kyriakos Alexandrou, an individual based in Cyprus ("we", "us"), which runs the Island of Cats app and islandofcats.org (the "Service"). By using the Service you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use it.

2. Who can use it

You must be at least 16 to use the app. You sign in with Google, and you're responsible for what happens on your account. Keep one account per person, and don't share it.

3. The game

You catch a cat by photographing it. The app checks the photo for a cat, saves it with where you took it, and gives it a rarity. Your cats earn XP, levels and badges, and can appear on leaderboards (Friends, National and Everyone) and in Cat Crush, where players vote for the cat they love more.

Rarity, XP, levels, badges, paws, votes and rankings are part of the game. They have no cash value, can't be bought, sold or transferred, and aren't a currency. We may change how they work to keep the game fair and fun, and we may reset, remove or correct any gained by mistake or in breach of these terms.

4. Your photos and what you add

You keep ownership of the photos, names, notes and other content you add. By adding it, you give us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, store, display, resize and adapt it (for example making a small copy, cutting the cat out of the photo, or placing it on a share card) in order to run the Service and show it to other players as the app describes. We won't use your photos in our own marketing without asking you first. The licence ends when you delete the content or your account, except for copies you or others already shared outside the app.

You confirm that you took the photos you add, or have the right to add them, and that they don't infringe anyone else's rights. Don't post photos that clearly show other people's faces, car number plates or the inside of someone's home without their permission.

5. Fair play and community rules

You agree not to:

  • chase, trap, feed to lure, pick up, disturb or harm cats to get a photo. Photograph them as you find them;
  • go onto private property or anywhere unsafe to catch a cat;
  • add photos that aren't cats you saw yourself: photos from the internet or a screen, or other people's photos;
  • fake your location, use more than one account, or automate the app to earn XP, rank higher or win Cat Crush;
  • harass, threaten, impersonate or share the personal details of other players, or use the app to find where someone lives;
  • post illegal, hateful, violent or sexual content, spam or advertising, including in cat names and notes;
  • send false or prank sightings of a lost pet, or use a lost pet's page or a finder's contact to scam or pressure its owner;
  • scrape, copy in bulk, reverse-engineer or disrupt the Service, or get around its limits.

Our Community Guidelines explain these rules in plain words. You can block any player and report any player or photo. A photo reported by several players is hidden automatically until we review it. We may review, hide or remove content, reset progress, and limit, suspend or close accounts that break these rules. Where it's reasonable to, we'll tell you why. If you think we got it wrong, email us.

6. Cats and your safety

  • Street cats are wild animals. Don't touch or pick up a cat you don't know. They can scratch, bite and carry disease.
  • Stay aware of traffic and your surroundings while you play.
  • The app isn't a vet or an emergency service. For an injured or sick animal, contact a vet or the local authorities.

7. Third-party services

The app is free and has no ads. It relies on third-party services such as Google sign-in and map providers, which have their own terms. When you share a photo to another app, such as Instagram, WhatsApp or TikTok, that app's own terms apply to it there.

8. Our rights

The Island of Cats name, logo, app design, characters and our own content belong to us or our licensors. You may not use them without permission, except to refer to the Service or share your own cats from it. Open-source software used in the app remains under its own licences.

9. Our responsibility to you

The Service is new and still growing. We work hard to keep it running, but we provide it "as is" and can't promise it will always be available or error-free, or that your progress will never need correcting. We may change, pause or stop features, and we'll tell you in the app before closing the Service altogether, so you can download your data.

To the extent the law allows, we're not responsible for losses caused by content other players post, by how people act while playing, or for indirect losses you couldn't reasonably have expected. Nothing in these terms limits liability that can't be limited by law, including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, or your statutory rights as a consumer.

10. Ending the agreement

You can stop using the Service at any time, and delete your account from Settings → Delete account or by email. Deleting it removes your cats, photos and progress for good. We may suspend or close accounts as described in section 5.

11. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms as the Service changes. If a change is significant, we'll tell you in the app before it takes effect. If you keep using the Service after that, the new terms apply.

12. Law and disputes

These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Cyprus, and the courts of Cyprus handle disputes. If you're a consumer living elsewhere, you also keep the protection of your own country's mandatory consumer laws and can bring claims in your local courts.
