The app

What is Island of Cats?

A free game for your phone. You snap the street cats around you, name them and collect them, and every cat you catch goes on a shared map. The aim is to map every street cat, together, and turn that map into real help for them.

Is it free?

Yes. There are no ads and nothing to buy, and we don’t sell your data.

Can I download it yet?

Not quite. It isn’t live in the App Store or Google Play yet. Join the waitlist and we’ll email you the moment it is.

Which phones does it work on?

iPhone and Android.

Do I need an account?

Yes. You sign in with Google to play, and you need to be 16 or over.

Is it only for Cyprus?

No. It works anywhere in the world. We’re based in Cyprus, and that’s where it started.

Do I have to get close to the cats?

No, and please don’t chase, pick up or lure a cat for a photo. Photograph cats as you find them. Our cat photo tips help you get a good shot from where you are.

Your photos and privacy

Does the app show exactly where cats live?

No. Only you see the exact spot where you took a photo. Everyone else, friends included, sees the town and a map square about 400 m wide. On our website’s Live Map, each cat sits in a square about 2 km wide.

Who can see my cat photos?

Other players: your friends, and anyone who sees your cats on the map, Latest catches or your page. Your email address is never shown, and we won’t use your photos in our own marketing without asking you first.

Does the app track my location?

No. It uses your location only while the app is open, to save where you caught a cat and to centre the map. It never tracks you in the background.

How do I delete my account?

In the app, go to Settings. You can download your data there too. Or email us at IslandOfCatsTeam@gmail.com. There’s more in our Privacy Policy.

Helping cats

Do you rescue cats?

No. We’re not a shelter or a vet. If a cat is hurt or very ill, call a vet or a local cat rescue. Our guide Found a street cat? walks through what to do.

How does mapping cats help them?

You can’t help what you can’t count, and almost nowhere counts its street cats. Today Island of Cats is a game, but every catch adds to a map of where street cats live, and that’s where real help starts: knowing where neutering, food and vet care are needed.

My pet is lost. Can Island of Cats help?

Yes. Report it lost in the app. It gets a page to share and a flyer with a QR code, and players near where it was last seen get an alert. Pets reported lost show on our Lost & Found page.

Who’s behind Island of Cats?

Island of Cats is made in Cyprus by Skoulix Labs. There’s more on our About page, or get in touch.

Street cats

I found a cat. Is it lost?

Probably not. Most cats outside are someone’s pet out for a wander, or a street cat that lives there. Look for a collar or a clipped ear, and give it a day or two. Here’s what to do, step by step.

I found kittens outside. Should I take them?

Usually not. The mother is often out finding food and can be gone for hours. Watch from far away first. Here’s when to step in.

What does a clipped ear on a cat mean?

A street cat with the tip of one ear cut straight across has been neutered. Here’s how to spot one.

Can cats drink milk?

Best not. Many cats are lactose intolerant, and milk gives them an upset stomach. Water is what they need. Here’s what to feed a street cat.

What’s poisonous to cats?

Lilies, human painkillers, dog flea drops, antifreeze and rat poison are the worst. Here’s the full list.

How do I know if a cat is sick?

Watch for changes: eating less, hiding, not grooming, losing weight. Breathing with its mouth open means a vet now. Here’s what to look for.

How old is this kitten?

Its teeth, eyes and weight give it away. Our kitten age chart shows how to tell.

What is TNR?

Trap, neuter, return: street cats are caught, neutered by a vet, ear-tipped and returned to where they live, so the colony stops growing. Here’s how it works.
